Our President

What a wonderful day yesterday was. So bright and hopeful. I loved watching all the celebration on TV. I was filled with pride as President Obama took the oath of office for president of the USA. I always knew a black man would become president in my lifetime. But for me, President Obama’s skin color is secondary to the person he is. I never thought the day would come when we would have a president that is compassionate, and at the same time solid and grounded. A pretty powerful combination. A president with a strong intuition and clear thinking (neutral-minded) and with that he will know what needs to be done and will do it with laser like focus and accuracy. (Yogi Bhajan would be proud!) A president that speaks a truth that we can all hear and trust. A president that is a gifted leader for all the world and a man, who through his family, demonstrates the meaning of the word love for all of us to see. Ah, and that charisma, that’s what the media calls it, but it’s so much more than that.

President Obama’s aura and magnetic field is wide and bright! It’s all pretty incredible. In energetic terms, our President’s chakras are are tuned up and balanced! (I think I’m going to cry…again.)

May the potential we see in our president be seen within ourselves too.

So when he calls on us to serve, that’s what we will do. Today when I was out, I smiled at everyone and if eye contact is made, I also said good morning. I’ll serve as sub for a yoga class tonight for a friend and just keep doing what I do and a bit more. This e-mail group list is all of like mind. I know you all serve your community, friends and family. Let’s inspire those that need inspiration. Or at least give them a smile!

The gift of time

The weather has certainly been a challenge here in the Pacific NW for the past 2 weeks.  Getting to a yoga class and connecting to that group consciousness has been tough.  Classes are being cancelled everywhere.  And not just classes but appointments in general.  Many of us didn’t quite get their holiday shopping done.  The world cetainly dind’t come to an end.   Gifts I have ordered online have not made there way to my home yet.  ( I haven’t’ seen an Fed Ex or UPS truck in awhile.)

So do we get stressed out about “all that we have to do” or do we take this gift of time for ourselves and our families with grace and gratitude?  There you have it.  Our hands have been forced to slow down, like it or not.

Meditate, breath deeply, listen to uplifting music, bake cookies and gift them to your neighbors. My neighbors came by yesterday smiling and wishing me a Happy Holiday.  I have to admit, I was feeling a bit of cabin fever but they lifted my spirits with their good cheer, which prompted me to bundle up and head out for a walk in the snow!  Feeling much better afterwards.

We can’t pass this precious moment up.  Yes, our kids are driving us a bit crazy, yes, we are feeling that our schedules has been disrupted but start to look at all all from a different angle and see what happens.
Wishing everyone a happy healty and holy 2009.

Dont’ Hold your Breath!

Short week.  I’m so happy for the short week and I do love Thanksgiving!
I hope everyone’s  baking, grocery shopping, preparing for guests, traveling?  Take good care.
Breath long and deep the breath of life. (Did you know holding your breath will kill you?)
And most of all, have fun.  Enjoy the company you share this week.  It’s not always perfect but sometimes it is, however we all need
recognize the gifts that come before us, whether they come in a challenge or with a beautiful ease….Either way, it’s a chance to evolve, learn and grow.

Be the Lighthouse

I hope all of you all well on this beautiful autumn day.  It’s just fantastic.
My neighbors has a beautiful maple tree and this AM as I was just finishing up my meditation the
sun was coming up over the tree line and when I opened my eyes and looked out the window the
sun was hitting this gorgeous tree in such a way that it appeared to be a blaze!  Pretty cool.
No I don’t think it was a message from God, maybe Moses?

So, things getting a little crazy?  Hold on tight, things will be moving even faster in the next year and beyond.
Stay grounded and as Yogi Bhajan told us, “Be the lighthouse”.  Shine brightly so that the people that need you can find you.
Your true essence will bean out to the world.  May we all become somebody that can guide those that need us.
He also also told us to drop our personal weakness and complaints and bless yourself by the strength of your grace and commitment.
Serve others and you will be taken care of.  These are all Yogi Bhajan’s teachings.  His words inspire me.

If you are not already on this path, Kundalini Yoga is one system that can give you the tools to be that beacon of light.

The time is here.  It is now.  The world needs all of us that are awake.

Recognize the Beauty of your Soul

Wow, these are incredible time which we are facing.

There are those that will feed off our collective human energy without us consciously knowing and there are those that are able to stand by us, solid, stable and fully grounded.   We need to be able to recognize the difference, without judgment but with consciousness.

With this consciousness we are less likely to fall prey to the panic and fear that is gripping our globe today.

We cannot let the outside influence disturb our inner selves.

Now is the time, more that ever to be strong, constant, disciplined.

Ground yourself so that no matter what you are confronted with, this too shall pass.  And the confrontation will only make you stronger.

Pay attention.  Open you eyes, including your third eye, your intuition.  Recognize the beauty of your Soul and listen to it.

Your soul speaks free of fear.

Do not fall into the patterns of depression, anxiety, compulsive spending, constant anger and self medication, to name a few.

You life is yours alone.  Your destiny is your path only.  Your happiness is your birthright.

Kundalini yoga is so much more that just holding postures and stretching.

Kundalini Yoga is the practice of Kings and Queen.  Come and sit in class to experience you regal self and the light of your soul.

Extra Points

The Muslins observe Ramadan through the end of the month.   It is spent by Muslims fasting during the daylight hours from dawn to sunset.  Charity, and self-accountability are especially stressed at this time; religious observances associated with Ramadan are kept throughout the month. My son’s good friend is practicing Muslin and observers Ramadan.  No food still sunset.  After sunset he told me it’s an all out feast!

So the other day Sam had a bunch of 16 year old boys over after school and they proceed to take every piece of meat out of the freezer and cook it up.  They are “starving”!  The young man who is observing Ramadan is with them.   I told the boys maybe go a little easy on the feasting, Tosh hasn’t eaten today.  Tosh chimed in.  NO, NO, he said.  It’s OK.  Actually it’s really good.  It’s good for me to smell the food.

It’s give me extra points.  Extra points I asked him?  Yeah he said, extra points.  What do you mean, I asked him.  Like extra points with God?  He looked at me and smiled, and said, yeah, yeah, exactly!  It will make me stronger.  More disciplined.  More committed for the rest of the month.

He was so sweet about it. I just smiled.  I understood where he was coming from.  I was impressed with his “extra points” concept and embraced it.

Those extra points are really for him, no?  Developing discipline, character and all with such grace.

Start collecting your extra points.  When things get rough, you’ll be able to withdraw a few “points” when needed.  I promise you, you will not regret it!

La rentrée

The French have a wonderful term for this time of year, la rentrée.

I recently read this in the Seattle Times:

La rentrée is a new beginning, as if the new school year provides new chances for everyone here to reform, renew, replenish and re-engage.

I just love the concept.  I’ve decided to experience my own  rentrée this month, rather than the same old January New Years resolution. I especially love the words renew, replenish and re-engage.

These are just a few questions I have been asking myself these past few weeks.

How do I want the year to be for me?

Do I want to re-engage in a different way?  Maybe a way that can touch all that are in my life in a loving way?

How can I replenish myself so that I have the energy and grace to uplift, love and help others around me that need my help?

I challenge you to come up with our own questions and make a spectacular la rentrée in the next few months!

And the Fall Equinox on Sept 21 will be a perfect support for you to be able to harvest all your goals and dreams.

Meditation, Yoga and Exercise will give you the tools to see all your greatness!

Summer Solstice

Summer Solstice has come and gone and the long days and the sun energy and still very much with us.  Especially here in the Northwest.  Are you kidding me, this is what we wait almost 10 months for!  I have always loved Summer Solstice and the Summer season but having lived in the Seattle area for 3 years now I can tell you that I REALLY appreciate it now.  The summer months are spectacular here and I am grateful for them.  But in these next few days I am preparing to travel east to Cape Cod for two weeks to sit by the surf, read a pile of books and gaze out over the horizon, practice some yoga and renewing my soul.  The cross country journey can be long but once I get there I am always grateful to have found this bit of tranquil and untouched shoreline.  We head to the outer cape, Truro, MA and I’ll let you in on a little secret.  One of the most spectacular stretches of beach, Longnook Beach.  Oprah did a double photo spread of Longnook in her November issue and I though oh no…. Here’s a link to some great photos  http://pinker.wjh.harvard.edu/photos/cape_cod/pages/Little%20Pamet%20River.htm

We shall see who shows up this summer, I guess I’m open to sharing.

Keep practicing some yoga while I’m gone. A little breath of Fire, Spinal Flex and Sat Kriya to keep the energy moving and I’ll see you all in class when I get back!

How fast is time really going?

Remember when you were a kid (anytime before the 90′s) when time would seem to go on forever?  Slowly the hours and days would pass.  Almost in a painful way. Long summer days just hanging out forever with you best friend, under a shady tree, talking a laughing and doing it all over again the next day. Maybe a pick up a game of baseball, kick ball?  The other day my 16 year old son told me he can’t believe that the school year is almost over. (Trust me, he’s happy about it)  ”Mom, it went  by so fast!  We need to start thinking about colleges, SAT’s, essays……”  He wasn’t quite panicked but was trying to wrap his hed around the fact that the school year is gone.  What a bummer, that these kids are not able to slow things down. I thought to myself, it’s not just the adults effected by the pace in which time is speeding by.  It’s everyone one of us.

We all need the tools to figure out how to put the brakes on before we crash.  And believe me, there is plenty of crashes going on.  Let’s be more conscious.  Breath, meditate, yoga.  Something.  5 or 10 minutes a day to start.  Put some “tools” in that tool box, so when you do crash, you can fix it up.

Pain-Body

How many have been reading Eckhart TolleNew Earth?  I just finished the chapter on the Pain-Body and I keep thinking about it.  It’s too much to go into here.  But what I did take from it that I can simply share is pay attention to the drama in your life.  Are you drawn to it?  Are youseeking it?  Eckhart says our egos feed on it.  I  get this.  If you haven’t pick this book up, get it.  Keep doing our Ego eradicator exercise.  Arms up at 60 degrees, fingers on the pads of you hand and thumbs are straight up…breath of fire.

Keep up, so you can be kept up!
